Garbage & Recycling

Most things can be recycled except: plastic bags/wrap, thick plastic (like buckets, chairs), Styrofoam, greasy containers, household glass (mirrors or dinner ware), toxic chemical containers, clothing, food, electronic or items that easily tangle, like cords.

Environmental Action Community of WNC (EAC) and Energy Savers Network (ESN) Program to Make Haywood Homes Energy Efficient:

This program provides FREE renovation to income qualified residents who are served by Duke power to lower utility bills and energy waste by weatherizing and increasing the energy efficiency of their homes. ESN has helped over 1400 families across WNC save money and improve their living conditions. Since, October 2025, the program has been renovating homes in Haywood. Energy Saver NC

The state-wide program to save money by reducing energy usage for low and middle income homeowners through weatherization or efficient electric appliance upgrades. Low-income households can qualify for 100% rebate, middle-income up to 50%.
