The Southwestern Commission Council of Governments, in partnership with the Western Piedmont Council of Governments, is offering the WNC Home Repair Readiness Program for homeowners in Hurricane Helene-affected counties, including Haywood County.
Eligible households may receive up to $25,000 for essential home repairs such as roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, septic, moisture remediation, and safety improvements.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Own and live in the home as their primary residence
- Have repair needs not covered by insurance or other programs
- Meet income requirements
Priority is given to households earning less than 80% of Area Median Income (AMI), especially those with storm-related damage. Households earning up to 120% of AMI may also qualify. For a family of four in Haywood County, the income limits are $69,360 (80% AMI) and $104,040 (120% AMI).
Applications and program details are available at WNCready.org.
The program is also seeking licensed general contractors with at least two years of experience. Interested contractors must provide a valid NC General Contractor license, Certificate of Insurance, and a Letter of Good Standing from the NC Department of Revenue.
