ABOUT: The Administration Department coordinates and oversees the activities of all Town Departments, provides direct staff assistance to the Mayor and Town Council, establishes the financial and budget management process for the Town, and directs the Town's efforts to plan for the future. Staff members perform research, suggest public policy development and direction for the Council and evaluate potential public programs. Staff include Human Resources, the Town Clerk and Public Information Officer, Deputy Town Manager, and Town Manager.

ABOUT: The Public Services Department is the largest department in Waynesville.  This department is responsible for maintaining our streets and public spaces, managing the Greenhill Cemetery, providing water, electricity, and sewer services to our community, and collecting residential and commercial waste.

HOLIDAY TRASH PICK UP SCHEDULE

STREET PAVING AND POT HOLE REPAIR SCHEDULE:

SANITATION SCHEDULE AND INSTRUCTIONS: Please click here for more information on what can be placed in trash and recycle bins. Please have both bins out no later than 7am on your scheduled pick up day.  All trash must be bagged and placed inside of the can with the lid closed. 

Information on what’s allowed for yard waste and bulky item pick up, as well as the schedule, can be found at https://www.waynesvillenc.gov/services/trash-pickup.  Yard waste and bulk pick up will alternate weeks, with yard waste pick up falling on the day after your household trash pick up day, and bulky pick up falling on the same day as household trash pickup. 

Leaf pick up will begin mid-October, at which point the sanitation crew will no longer pick up yard waste until the end of January.

ABOUT: The Recreation Department provides quality recreation opportunities for all citizens of the greater Waynesville area by providing indoor and outdoor facilities and activities and to be a resource for those who seek to improve their quality of life through recreation. Our Recreation Center has an indoor lap pool, waterpark, childcare, summer camps, afterschool programs, excursions, exercise classes, a weight room, exercise machines, and a large indoor gym.

ABOUT: The Finance Department is comprised of our Tax Office, Utility Office, and Grants Manager. 

HOW TO PAY YOUR UTILITY BILL: Utilities can be paid at the office that has a drive-thru for your convenience. Bills can also be paid online by clicking here.  Do not click the “LOG IN” button at the top of the page. Instead, click “Utility Billing” on the left hand side of the screen, and input your Account Number and Customer ID which can be found on your bill. IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR UTILITIES CUT OFF: We strongly recommend paying your past due bill in person at the office in order to have your utilities cut back on as soon as possible. Paying past due bills online can take one to two business days to process, resulting in a delay of utilities being turned back on.

ABOUT: The Waynesville PD is a 24-hour agency that has 53 full time employees. WPD is comprised of a dispatch center, School Resource Officers, Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Drug Unit, K9 Program, Administrative Personnel, and a Specialized Tactical Anti-Crime Unit called T.A.C. We pride ourselves on serving our citizens, visitors, and businesses in a positive manner with a Community Engagement approach. Our Community Engagement programs consist of a Community Care Program with a Social Worker, Civilian Volunteers, Motorcycle Unit, Drones, and a Community Oriented Police unit.

ABOUT: The primary mission of the Waynesville Fire Department is to protect and enhance the high quality of life for the citizens and visitors of the Town of Waynesville from the adverse effects of natural and man-made emergencies. 

BURN PERMITS: Burning permits, for those outside of city limits, are available at both stations as well as online. Burning permits for those inside city limits are only available in special circumstances. These permits are available through the Town Fire Marshal at (828) 456-3516.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES:

ABOUT: The Development Services Department administers building permits and inspections, and is responsible for zoning codes, subdivisions, floodplain management, historic preservation, stormwater, and sedimentation and erosion control permitting.  Development Services also staffs the Planning Board, Historic Preservation Commission, and Board of Adjustment, and manages long-range planning initiatives related to land use and the Town’s 2035 Comprehensive Plan.

ORDINANCES AND APPLICATIONS Ordinances and permit applications can be searched through the town website .

PERMITTING AND INSPECTIONS:  If you are renovating or doing new construction, or if you are locating a new business into an existing structure, please call (828) 456-8647 to learn about requirements and permits.  Appointments can be made to speak with a building inspector or zoning official Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00pm.  Please call ahead to schedule inspections or call before 9:00am if you need an inspection that same day.

CODE ENFORCEMENT:  For complaints related to junk vehicles, tall grass, accumulations, or building safety issues on private property, our code enforcement and building inspections personnel can investigate and take enforcement action.  Please call the main number or email Luis Delgado, Code Enforcement Official at ldelgado@waynesvillenc.gov.

STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM:  The Development Services Department works with other Departments to implement the Town’s Stormwater Management Plan as part of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). This includes public education initiatives, plan review for development and redevelopment project, and on-going maintenance of stormwater control measures.  Learn more by clicking here.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION:  Waynesville has an active and engaged Historic Preservation Commission that provides public education and events which promote appreciation for our history and architecture.  Properties that are designated and preserved as local landmarks receive a 50% property tax reduction.
