Waynesville Named #2 Best Main Street in America by USA Today Readers
WAYNESVILLE, NC — Waynesville’s charm, character, and community spirit have earned national recognition, as the town’s historic downtown district has been voted #2 Best Main Street in America in the prestigious USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
This national honor places Waynesville among the most beloved downtowns in the country, celebrating its vibrant blend of locally owned shops, renown restaurants, thriving arts scene, and breathtaking mountain backdrop in the heart of Western North Carolina.
“We are incredibly proud to be named the second-best Main Street in America,” said Executive Director of the Downtown Waynesville Commission Beth Gilmore. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our small business owners, the creativity of our local artists, and the unwavering support of our community and visitors who continue to choose Waynesville as a destination.”
The USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards highlights top destinations across the country, with nominees selected by experts and winners determined by public vote. Waynesville’s strong showing is a testament to its authentic Appalachian heritage, welcoming atmosphere, beautiful landscape and Hallmark-movie-like vibe.
“This recognition is a reflection of what makes Waynesville so special,” said DWC Chair Jon Feichter. “It’s not just what you see, it’s what you feel. It’s the people, the sense of community, and the way folks show up for each other. That’s what makes this place work."
From seasonal festivals and year-round live music to specialty boutiques, curated art galleries and farm-to-table dining, the few city blocks that make up Waynesville’s historic Main Street district are home to a wonderfully diverse collection of businesses.
“Waynesville’s historic Main Street isn’t number two in America because of the architecture or landscape. There are beautiful towns everywhere. What sets Waynesville apart and makes us stand out are the people,” said Gilmore. “We are fortunate to have such creative and talented business owners, artists, and entrepreneurs here in one community. They deserve this honor.”
