Scam Alert
The Town of Waynesville has received multiple reports of individuals calling from a private number, asking if there is an outage at a residence in which they are not the customer.
The callers have been demanding and deceitful, and have been providing falsified call back numbers. The Town of Waynesville staff believe that the scammers are requesting outage status, so they can in turn call the residence to demand payment over the phone to turn their power back on. This is a scam.
No one from Town of Waynesville Utility Office will ever call and request payment over the phone for any reason. Notice of outages and disconnections are provided to customers via letters and doorhangers.
If you believe you have been targeted, contact your local law enforcement agency. You can reach the Town of Waynesville Police Department non-emergency line at (828) 456-5363.
