Police Officer

An applicant must meet the following terms and conditions:

  • Minimum employment standards for criminal justice officer as established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission
  • Minimum required training for criminal justice officer as mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • Submission of fingerprints to by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
  • Sufficient physical, mental and emotional condition, as determined by a Medical History and Examination, necessary to perform the essential functions of the above position.
  • Maintain a professional and personal standard of conduct that is consistent with the law enforcement profession.
  • Any additional requirements specified by this department, which may include
  1. Polygraph Examination
  2. Psychological Test (s)
  3. Physical Examination
  4. Other (Specify) Drug Screening Test
  5. Successful completion of the Waynesville Police Department’s Field Training Officer Program.

 

Telecommunicator positions:

Requires a 30 Correct Words per Minute typing score, the test are given at NC Works. 

  • Minimum employment standards for criminal justice telecommunicator as established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the North Carolina Sheriff'’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • Minimum required training for criminal justice telecommunicator as mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.
  • Minimum required training as mandated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Division of Criminal Information for certification.
  • Sufficient physical, mental and emotional condition, as determined by a Medical History and Examination, necessary to perform the essential functions of the above position.
  • Maintain a professional and personal standard of conduct that is consistent with the law enforcement and telecommunication/dispatch profession
