The Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department will host two basketball shooting and dribbling camps at the Waynesville Recreation Center. The first camp will take place from June 26 – 29 and the second camp will take place from July 17 – 2 from 9 am to 1 pm.
Kevin Cantwell, former head coach at Appalachian State University and Associate Head Coach at Georgia Tech University, will direct the highly focused specialty camps teaching dribbling and shooting. The unique camps will utilize training drills to assist in learning or improving ball handling and shooting skills. Developing into an offensive threat involves becoming a good shooter along with eliminating the fear of dribbling.
The camps will combine both technical instruction and competition in a fun atmosphere. Other aspects campers will learn will be the knowledge and understanding of the mechanics of the shot; identifying the causes and corrections of the most common shooting errors; knowledge of the skills needed to catch and shoot and dribble to shoot; and incorporating footwork skills while dribbling and shooting. The cost is $150 per person. A deposit of $25 is required. Campers are also asked to bring a snack.
