WINSTON-SALEM - Eleven members of the Waynesville Judo Club traveled to Winston Salem for the North Carolina State Championships and won eight medals. Braden Riggs, David Daly and his son, Trevor, all won gold medals. Logan Grasty, Tanner Keener, and McKayla Stratton took silver medals while Dan Norman and Daniel Vaughn took the bronze medals. There were more than 100 competitors.
Sensei Riggs was proud of the performance from the team. "The Waynesville Judo Club is growing and we are excited to see what lies ahead," he said. The club will host the Fall Brawl Championships on October 7 at the Waynesville Recreation Center. This year the Fall Brawl will be sponsored by Grasty's Rock Yard.
The team practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 pm at the Waynesville Recreation Center. The club is open to boys and girls ages 4 and up. It is co-sponsored by the Waynesville Parks and Recreation Department.
